Sex and Nudity - how to direct professional, ethical and artistic scenes

Here is the much-requested workshop on how to plan and film professional scenes that feature sex, kissing, nudity, etc. Not porn, but everything else.

I am moderating a panel with three professional director/producers who will share their insights on the following:

- Planning the scenes

- How to work with actors for these scenes

- Protocol from wardrobe (or lack of wardrobe), set etiquette and ethics

- Legalities, nudity clauses and the law

- Filming and technical tips and tricks for sex scenes

It will be a safe space to have an honest discussion and give us tools to approach sex scenes with confidence. Bring your questions and an open mind. This should be good.

CONFIRMED PANELISTS (bios below)

Jane Clark

Ally Zonsius

Jane Clark’s first seven award-winning short films covered everything from family films, issue films and romance. Her experience with nudity and sexual content on set and in films started on the acting side, having done nude and sex scenes in two films. Her first experience with directing a sexual scene was in her short film, THE TOUCH. She took those actresses with her to a film she produced, ELENA UNDONE, that had overt sexual scenes and full on set nudity, but was regulated by nudity riders for which she was responsible for negotiating, protecting and honoring. Her directorial debut was METH HEAD, which had overt and violent male sexual content. Her second feature as director was the sexualized but more benign, CRAZY BITCHES (soon to be followed by an even more sexy CRAZIER BITCHES!) As producer, Jane was responsible for the nudity clauses and the actors that she brought on to the project. She will share her experiences about protecting their needs to make sure that their clauses were honored.

Ally Zonsius, a Michigan native, has been directing commercials, music videos and narrative films for the last 6 years. She has 2 Telly's and an Aurora Award under her belt for her commercial work and was chosen for Shoot Magazine's directors list in 2015. Her first feature, Roll Over Play Dead and short film, Girls Night will be starting festival runs in the fall of 2015. She has done a few shoots with nudit.. Ally shot a campaign of commercials in the Bahamas with four topless models. She also did a short with kissing and the intention of a romantic sexual scene. She can definitely shed some light on some good advice and mistakes to avoid to make sure everyone is comfortable.
